Spelthorne Council has been working with the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance and Surrey County Council on improvements to the appearance of Ashford Train Station in order to provide a more welcoming environment for rail passengers and visitors to the town.
Improvements to the station and surrounding area include an upgrade to the front of the station, resurfacing of the road and pavements in Station Approach and improved lighting and signage.
White Lodge which adjoins the station is also being restored and Spelthorne Council is supporting the current efforts of the private owner to bring the property back into use.
Looking further ahead, the Council will be working alongside local businesses and volunteers on plans to smarten up pieces of land around the station.
Richard Kempton, Stakeholder Support Manager for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: “We are delighted to be working on the improvements to Ashford Station. Thanks to £60,000 of funding from the Department for Transport Access for All Scheme, we are introducing a new accessible ramp and tactile paving to the front of the station. We are also relocating the ticket machine to a more suitable position and the painting of the ticket office. We would like to thank passengers for their patience whilst these improvements continue.”
The work to improve access to the station is expected to be completed by the end of March.
